Someone on Facebook is suggesting the Government has taken money from the rates rebates scheme to pay for the winter energy payment scheme. I want to correct this.

I want to correct this misinformation.

21 August 2019 Jenny Kirk Dear Ms Kirk Your Official Information Act 1982 request OIA 19/20-0127 Thank you for your request of 2 August 2019 via data.govt.nz for the following information under the Official Information Act 1982 (the Act): ‘charts of rates rebates for the years 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and 2019-2020.’ I am refusing your request for charts of rates rebates for the years ‘2017-2018’ and ‘2018-2019’ under section 18(d) of the Act, as the information you have requested is or will soon be publicly available. Charts of rebates for 2017-2018 is already publicly available by going to localcouncils.govt.nz and clicking ‘resources,’ then ‘download data.’ Under the subheading ‘Financial information,’ you are able to download the Excel spreadsheet labelled ‘Rates Rebates Statistics.’ Charts of rebates for 2018-2019 will soon be publicly available on the website. I am refusing your request for charts of rates rebates for the period 2019-2020 under section 18(e) of the Act, as the information you have requested does not currently exist because the financial period has not ended. You have the right, under section 28(3) of the Act, to seek an investigation and review of this decision by the Office of the Ombudsman.
