A breakdown of MSD's child abuse notification and substantiation data

I would like a breakdown of MSD's child abuse notification and substantiation data into its component categories of emotional, physical, sexual and neglect and for this to be done over the period 2011-2015. This needs to be done by CYFS districts and for distinct children and young people as well as overall. E.g 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 all notifications and notifications of distinct children and young people emotional physical sexual neglect total CYFS Districts 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 all substantiations and substantiations of distinct children and young people emotional physical sexual neglect total CYFS Districts

This data is already collected, but just not available on MSD web-pages. Child abuse is a huge issue and there is a wide variation in incidence and prevalence of child abuse notifications and substantiations across districts in New Zealand.

Working out why some areas do well, while others struggle will help in finding solutions to this problem.

Thank you for supplying the information requested. In my application through data.govt I asked for information at the district level which you have interpreted as the Operational Area, whereas I was wanting data at the Site or Sub-site level. Operational Area data is too extensive to be of much use in analysing local trends (e.g. Waitemata covers Rodney, North Shore, West Auckland and Auckland Central). This is important data as it relates to the stated government target of a 5% reduction in substantiated child physical abuse rates from 2010 to 2017.

Could I please have the data requested broken down to site/sub-site level.

    Thank you

    Geoff Bridgman

    Tena koe Dr Geoff Bridgman,

our usual format for responses is to provide them as a PDF which we cannot upload to the site. However, if you would be happy to provide the Ministry with an email address, we could send the response to you directly (it would not be necessary to provide such an address on this site, you could communicate it to us directly at OIA_Requests@msd.govt.nz).

We could then follow up with providing the information to this site at a later date.
