If possible I'd like a CSV file which contains the speed limit sign data for speed limit signs across all of New Zealand. The fields requested are: facing, latitude, longitude, speed sign id, speed, sign type (standard speed, variable electronic, school zone, shop, etc.), variable times (start/end time once per day, start/end time twice per day), calendar type (school, shop), active days, seasonal, default speed (such as when electronic signs off). Basically if a person drives past a speed limit sign, sufficient data that would enable a program to know where the sign is located, what the speed limit is, when the speed limit applies. Happy to receive a file as comma separate, tab delimited or json.
Whilst there are a number of commercial and open source products available, most have severe limitations that make them far from ideal, even to the point of being misleading. E.g. providing only the maximum speed of the road even though at times, a lower speed limit applies. The aim of obtaining this data is to make it easier for New Zealanders to know/comply with speed limits making the roads safer.
The data would match exactly the speed limit signs drivers see on the road. That is the speed limit changes where the sign is located, not the common assumption of an intersection, or a decision made by a third party. I already have a program operating and could build the data, but using official data should mean a more reliable source of data and could be operational for New Zealand with minimal work. Others could then do the same if they chose to, at no cost to the government.
