Thundermaps - Staying safe from hazards around you

ThunderMaps aims to make workplaces safer.

Individuals can see any dangers that are near their workplaces and surrounding environments, so they can be prepared and keep themselves safe.

Launched in 2012, Thundermaps has helped make millions of open data incidents available to members of the public, including police call-out locations, fire alerts, earthquakes, weather hazards and traffic accidents.

How it works

ThunderMaps is mobile hazard and incident reporting application.

Users automatically receive alerts for hazards and incidents using a combination of real-time open data, private data and crowdsourced data. They can see these events relative to their location, and can also investigate those reports.

Hazard and incident reporting is a key productivity driver within businesses, but when using traditional methods the processes involved are usually slow and time-consuming, and incur substantial costs. ThunderMaps offers offline mobile reporting, where users can report the location of incidents and events without reception. The report is then uploaded to other users and selected businesses when the user is back within mobile coverage. This has been especially valuable in the forestry, mining and energy sectors.
